At the top end, Caribbean dining stands toe to toe with anything on offer in major North American or European cities, not least because a trail of renowned chefs have made their way to the Caribbean to take charge of restaurants in the luxury resorts. Dine like a local

Fried fish and fungee, a type of polenta made from cornmeal and okra, sits alongside American-influenced fare. The Bushwacker cocktail was born on St. Thomas, while St. John Brewers are making a name for themselves with their locally produced craft beers.

Where to go

Downtown Charlotte Amalie and the Marriott and Ritz-Carlton resorts have some impressive local and international restaurants. In St. John, Cruz Bay offers the best collection of dining.
